Our School

The origins of Palmer Rapids Public School date back to 1890, when James and Susan Murphy donated land for the community’s first schoolhouse, a one-room building known as SS8 located at the top of the hill. Approximately 25 students in Grades 1 through 8 attended this original school.

In 1952, a new two-room schoolhouse was constructed on the present site, marking the beginning of the modern Palmer Rapids Public School. Continued growth led to the first addition between 1958 and 1960, which introduced two more classrooms, washrooms, and a staff room. A major expansion followed in 1970, adding a gymnasium, library, kindergarten room, and five additional classrooms. This project was one of the Renfrew County Board of Education’s early efforts to provide equal educational opportunities across the region.

Today, Palmer Rapids Public School serves students from full-day kindergarten to Grade 8 in the Renfrew County District School Board, continuing its long tradition of learning and community involvement.
